48hrs in the Valley June '13 Recap

June 17, 2013

This June's 48hrs in the Valley kicked off with a warm welcome from our co-chair Lars Leckie the Hummer Winblad Venture Partners offices on Embarcadero in San Francisco. This was the opportunity for all 18 of the 48hrs companies to get to know each other before embarking on their morning Alcatraz trip (a fun SF must-see!) and the next two days of mentoring, speakers and VC visits.

After making it back from the rock in the afternoon, we gathered back at C100 HQ - RocketSpace - for amazing workshops with our C100 partners: KPMG, BDC, BMO, Pagemill Partners, TSX and Silicon Valley Bank.

The following day, we all gathered at Microsoft in San Francisco for a morning filled with kick ass Charter Member speakers for "Voices in the Valley": Jonathan Ehrlich (Founder of Copious and Former Head of Marketing at Facebook) shattered the myths of Silicon Valley; Ranjith Kumaran (Founder of PunchTab and YouSendIt) discussed growth hacking; Lars Leckie (General Partner at Hummer Winblad Venture Partners) and Brian Wong (Founder of Kiip) went over the board dynamics from both sides of the table.

After our morning speakers, we broke for a casual lunch and had the opportunity to network with Charter Members, C100 Partners, and mentors for a bit. But, of course, the best part of 48hrs are the afternoon one on one mentoring sessions with about 25 of our best Charter Members and C100 friends.  Each company was carefully matched with 3 mentors for 3 sessions of one hour mentoring. We keep hearing that both the companies were quite amazing and the Charter Members’ advice was invaluable. So, we want to give a big thank you to all the Charter Members who participated—you all rock!

To end day 2, we went all out to celebrate Canadian entrepreneurship by throwing the 48hrs in the Valley reception at Mozilla in SF. Lars Leckie (co-chair of the C100 and Partner at Hummer Winblad Venture Partners), and Katherine Barr (co-chair of the C100 and Partner at Mohr Davidow Ventures) congratulated the 18 companies on their success and thanked the C100 community for joining in on another awesome 48hrs in the Valley.

Day 3 brought us down to Google in Mountain View, for a morning hearing about Google's approach to Corporate Development from Don Harrison (Vice President of Corporate Development at Google), Arif Janmohamed (48hrs Organizing Committee, Charter Member and Partner at Lightspeed Ventures) on VC in the Valley, and C100 co-chair Katherine Barr (Partner Mohr Davidow Ventures) on negotiation. After getting the full Google experience by eating at their awesome cafeteria (yum!), we got to pick up some Google swag while shopping at the Google store.

After leaving Google, all 18 companies got to strut their stuff during scheduled VC meetings along Sand Hill Road. Then to wrap up the event, we hung out at the Patio for final drinks with everyone. Man, what a jam packed and super fun event! Thank you to everyone who made this a memorable 48hrs in the Valley....especially:
